Example Midterm "A", "B", and "C" essays

Midterm format:

A. 1 essay question. You will be able to choose from 2 or 3 questions. See Study Questions below; the questions for Class Discussion #1 are also Study Questions.

B. 2 short identification of terms. You will be able to choose from at least 5 important terms that have been stressed in lecture, the readings, or in class discussion. Many of these will be drawn from the terms in the Lecture Outlines.

For each identification you should be prepared to write:

1) a brief definition or explanation of the term;

2) a few sentences describing the significance of the identification in the larger context of the Native American world views presented in Part I of the course.

Study questions:

The questions below are intended to help you focus your preparations for the midterm essay question. I will be looking for you to demonstrate that you have:

A.         absorbed the material for the readings and lectures, and

B.         thought about how to put the different types of information together to bear on defining and describing the World Views of some of the Native American groups of the Southwest.

Things to remember:

Plan your essay before you write. Often a quick outline will help you to focus your material and remember important examples.

Respond directly to the question. Use specific references to the course material to support your argument.
