April 6, 1944 Dear Margaret, We are now enjoying a plague of moths. Some are beautiful with green and orange protective coloring that make them particularly invisible in bushes. They are a nuisance in the evening when we are trying to write or read. The palm trees in the front yard are now in blossom. A small, hard red berry resembling a cranberry grows in clusters from stalks about a dozen feet below the palms. These berry clusters are a meeting place for a variety of birds, the most interesting of which is one with a black top, speckled black breast, yellow bill and a bright red rim above the eyes. Much love, Herb |
