Dear Margaret,

Today we had fried chicken at the officers' quarters again. I helped kill chickens and remove feathers. It wasn't a very pleasant job. After it was all over, we all pitched in to clean up, wash dishes, etc. It was the most home-like act of anything I've done since being in the Army. Everyone else remarked to the same effect.

Much love,

Herb
