May 28, 1944 Dear Margaret, Please note the change of APO. We are fairly close to our former location and resting up. Back in tents again, but we have wooden floors and a front fly on the tent really gives double space. There is no furniture, but tomorrow I plan to get busy with some lumber, nails and a hammer. We do have electric lights in the tents. There is a pleasant officer's club attached to the hospital and outdoors movies every night. We eat at the officer's mess, and the food is better than ours. We shall probably work with this unit for a while awaiting another assignment. This is a much larger unit than ours, and they have a swell lab where I may be able to pick up a few bits of information. But Army procedures are so standardized that I doubt it. Our camp is built right in the midst of a eucalyptus grove. Barbed wire strung around is the only thing that keeps the cows and horses from walking into the tent area. Much love, Herb |
