第四殿 五官王

Dì-Sì Diàn Wǔ Guān Wáng

第四殿 五官王
The Lord Wǔ Guān, Lord of the Five Senses, reigns at the bottom of the great Ocean, away to the east below the Wòjiāo rock. 五官王掌管大海之底,正东方沃燋石下的合大地狱。

Wǔ Guān wáng zhǎngguǎn dàhǎi zhī dǐ, zhèngdōng fāng Wòjiāoshí xiàde hé dà dì yù.

五官王掌管大海之底,正東方沃燋石下的合大地獄。
His Court is eight thousand miles wide, 此地狱宽广各八千里(五百由旬)。

Cǐdì yù kuānguǎng gè bāqiān lǐ (wǔbǎi yóu xún).

此地獄寬廣各八千里(五百由旬)。
and is subdivided into sixteen dungeons, as follows:- 也另外设有十六小地狱。

1. The Dungeon of the Dripping Pond 一名沯池小地狱。

Yī Míng Záchí Xiǎo Dìyù.

2. The Dungeon for Kneeling Chains and Split Bamboo

[NOTE: The missing character, read wù, is written máo-suī 矛夊 over ding 定. I find it in no other source. It refers to kneeling for a long time.]
二名X练竹签 小地狱。

Èr Míng Wù Liàn Zhúqiān Xiǎo Dìyù.

4. The Dungeon where Faces Swell and Stream With Perspiration.

[NOTE: The missing character, bàng, should be written miàn plus fēng 面丰. It refers to the skin of the face.]

SINNERS OF THE FOURTH COURT

Cǐ rén ruòyǒu yǐxià shìjiàn zhě, pèi rù cǐchù:

1. Those who cheat the customs and evade taxes; 漏税不交。

Lòushuì bù jiāo.

漏稅不交。
2. those who repudiate their rent, 耍赖不给租金。

shuǎlài bùgěi zūjīn.

耍賴不給租金。
3. those who sell with weighted scales, in order to 卖东西用重称,以占人家便宜。

mài dōngxi yòng zhòng chěng, yǐ zhàn rénjiā piányí.

賣東西用重秤,以佔人家便宜。
4. who treat with sham medicines, selling the real ones, and thus make people sicker, 配合假药,当真药卖人,以误人病机的。

pèihé jiǎ yào, dàngzhēn yào mài rén, yǐ wùrén bìngjī de.

配合假藥,當真藥賣人,以誤人病機的。
5. who water their rice, and sell it as good rice, 泡过水的米,仍当好米卖人。

pào guò shuǐ de mǐ, réng dāng hǎo mǐ mài rén.

6. who do commerce with debased coinage, or fail to give proper change. 卖东西时用假银子(钱)给商家,或者将零头的钱扣下不给。

7. who sell deceptive goods and delude people to buy scented ointments, perfumes, cosmetics, silks, and other vainglorious and unnecessary items. 卖一些惑人心思,引人虚荣的香油、香水、脂粉、丝绸、绫罗等物品。

mài yīxiē huò rénxīn sī, yǐn rén xūróng de xiāngyóu, xiāngshuǐ, zhīfěn, sīchóu, língluó děng wùpǐn.

8. those who do not make way for the cripples, be they old and young; 路(车)上遇见跛足、残废的老人、幼童,不立刻让路、让座。

lù (chē) shàng yùjiàn bǒzú, cánfèi de lǎorén, yòutóng, bù lìkè rànglù, ràngzuò.

9. those who encroach upon petty trade monopolies of simple rustics or of the elderly or of children or of those who make a pittance as carriers. 暗中霸占,诈欺一些较无知识的乡民,以及老年、幼小的人,或者肩挑贩卖辛苦赚到微薄利润的人。

ànzhōng bàzhàn, zhà qī yīxiē jiào wúzhī shí de xiāngmín, yǐjí lǎonián, yòuxiǎo de rén, huòzhě jiāntiāo fànmài xīnkǔ zhuàn dào wēibó lìrùn de rén.

10. those who delay in delivering letters entrusted to them; 受人托付,寄带家书,不很快地交付给对方,误人讯息。

shòu rén tuōfù, jì dài jiāshū, bù hěn kuài dì jiāofù gěi duìfāng, wùrén xùnxī.

11. steal bricks or stones from walls as they pass by, or oil and candles from temple lamps; 窃取街道上铺路的砖或石块,以及夜晚照明的灯、烛,造成交通危险。

qièqǔ jiēdào shàngpù lù de zhuān huò shíkuài, yǐjí yèwǎn zhàomíng de dēng, zhú, zàochéng jiāotōng wēixiǎn.

12. poor people who do not behave properly 穷人不安分守己,贪图意外之财。

qióngrén bù'ānfèn shǒu jǐ, tāntú yìwàizhīcái.

13. rich people who are not compassionate to the old or the poor, and do not succour them; 富人不怜老恤贫,多行救济。

fùrén bù lián lǎo xùpín, duō xíng jiùjì.

14. those who promise a loan and go back on their word, ruining the plans of others; 假如有人来借钱,起先答应借贷,到时候却故意落空不借,以致误了人家的大事。

jiǎrú yǒu rén lái jièqián, qǐxiān dāying jièdài, dàoshíhou què gùyì luòkōng bù jiè, yǐzhì wù le rénjiā de dàshì.

假如有人來借錢,起先答應借貸,到時候卻故意落空不借,以致誤了人家的大事。
15. those who see people suffering from illness yet cannot bring themselves to part with certain useful drugs they may have in their possession; 见人生病,家中收藏有药物,却吝啬不提出来。

jiànrén shēngbìng, jiāzhōng shōucáng yǒu yào wù, què lìnsè bù tíchū lái.

見人生病,家中收藏有藥物,卻吝嗇不提出來。
16. those who know good prescriptions but keep them secret; 有很有效的方剂,却秘藏于己,不传授出去。

yǒu hěn yǒuxiào de fāngjì, què mì cáng yú jǐ, bù chuánshòu chū qù.

有很有效的方劑,卻秘藏於己,不傳授出去。
17. those who discard medicine bottles or or broken bowls and other trash into the street, endangering vehicles and pedestrians; 煎过的药渣、或碎碗、杂物、废弃的器械,乱放在街道上,影响车、人的行走。

jiān guò de yàozhā, huò suì wǎn, záwù, fèiqì de qìxiè, luàn fàng zài jiēdào shàng, yǐngxiǎng chē, rén de xíngzǒu .

煎過的藥渣、或碎碗、雜物、廢棄的器械,亂放在街道上,影響車、人的行走。
18. those raising mules and ponies who let them urinate and deficate in the way of pedestrians and dirtying the landscape 列缘无故养驴、马等兽类,以致尿、粪妨碍行人或环境卫生。

liè yuán wúgù yǎng lǘ, mǎ děng shòulèi, yǐzhì niào, fèn fáng ài xíngrén huò huánjìng wèishēng.

列緣無故養驢、馬等獸類,以致尿、糞妨礙行人或環境衛生。
19. those with unused farm land who do not rentit to others to plant, but let it lie waste. 田地无法耕作,不租给他人种植,故意荒芜、废弃。

tiándì wúfǎ gēngzuò, bù zūgěi tārén zhòngzhí, gùyì huāngwú, fèiqì.

田地無法耕作,不租給他人種植,故意荒蕪、廢棄。
20. those who destroy other people's walls, and fences; 损坏他人的墙壁。

sǔnhuài tārén de qiángbì.

損壞他人的牆壁。
21. those who use charms or magic or call upon spirits try to bewitch their enemies, 用咒语、法术、驱使鬼神,来捉弄人。

yòng zhòuyǔ, fǎshù, qūshǐ guǐshén, lái zhuōnòng rén.

用咒語、法術、驅使鬼神,來捉弄人。
22. those use fearsome words to frighten people, 乱造惊人之言,以惊吓人。

luàn zào jīngrén zhī yán, yǐ jīngxià rén.

亂造驚人之言,以驚嚇人。
—all these shall be punished according to the gravity of their offences, 以上事端,经查核所犯事件的大小,

yǐshàng shìduān, jīng cháhé suǒ fànshì jiàn de dàxiǎo,

and shall be thrust by the devils into the great hell to suffer 命令鬼卒,先推入各大地狱去受苦,

and shall separately be tortured for their offences in the various dungeons. 再另外判罚所属罪业的小地狱,去受苦刑。

until their time arrives for passing into the Fifth Court, where their merits and shortcomings are examined. 期满之后,再戒送到第五殿,考察审核其功过。

EXHORTATION FOR THE FOURTH COURT

O you still in the human world, if on the 18th day of the 2nd moon you swear an oath repent and to sin no more, then you may escape the various dungeons of this Hall 世人假若在每年的二月十八日这一天,发誓、悔改、不再违反的话,可以免入本殿各地狱受苦。

Shìrén jiǎruò zài měinián de èryuè shíbā rì zhè yī tiān, fāshì, huǐgǎi, bùzài wéifǎn dehuà, kěyǐ miǎn rù běn diàn gèdì yù shòukǔ.

世人假若在每年的二月十八日這一天,發誓、悔改、不再違反的話,可以免入本殿各地獄受苦。
and if you copy out this book, or add to it examples of rewards and punishments following upon virtues and crimes at the end of each court's chapter, 假如抄写玉历全书,或者续加古今因果报应的事迹,在各殿的章句之后,

jiǎrú chāoxiě yù lì quán shū, huòzhě xù jiā gǔjīn yīnguǒ bàoyìng de shìjì, zài gè diàn de zhāngjù zhī hòu,

假如抄寫玉曆全書,或者續加古今因果報應的事迹,在各殿的章句之後,
and hand them down to posterity for the good of the human race, so that all who read may repent of their wickedness 来劝化人为善,流传后代,使阅读的人从此悔改,

lái quànhuà rénwéi shàn, liúchuán hòudài, shǐ yuèdú de rén cóng cǐ huǐ gǎi,

來勸化人爲善,流傳後代,使閱讀的人從此悔改,
so that they will be without sin, then you will not be without merit! 免于犯错,则暗中自有功德。

miǎnyú fàncuò, zé ànzhōng zìyǒu gōngdé.
