Session #2 - assignment


Next week please be prepared to discussed the 3 articles included in the course reader:

Min Zhou and Carl L. Bankston III, "Social Capital and the Adaptation of the Second Generation: the Acse of Vietnamese Youth in New Orleans;"

Melvin L. Oliver and Thomas M. Shapiro, "The Structuring of Racial Inequality in American Life," Chapter 6 from Black Wealth/White Wealth.

Robin D.G. Kelley, Race Rebels: Culture, Politics, and the Black Working Class. New York: The Free Press, 1994, 1-13, Chapter 3, 55-75.

These are the questions we will address:

1) What research question (or questions) does each of these articles ask?

2) What conclusions or results do they present as an answer to the research question?

3) What methodology (or methodologies) does each article use in the research process in order to come to a conclusion?

4) What other ways of framing these research questions can you imagine? What other research methodology (or methodologies) can you imagine that might have been used to address these research topics (and your imagined ones)?
