Howling Wolf, Cheyenne, 1877.
This is the first page of a picture letter sent by Howling Wolf
to his wife,
Curly Hair, to tell her of the death of Heap of Birds at Fort
Marion.
Heap of Birds was the most eminent Cheyenne prisoner held at Fort
Marion.
Howling Wolf was in Boston at the time receiving care for eye
problems which, if left untreated, would have led to blindness.
