Margaret Schoeninger
Dr. Margaret Schoeninger - Professor of Anthropology at UCSD
Margaret Schoeninger is presently Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). She is also co-Director of the Center for Advanced Research and Training in Anthropogeny (CARTA, Human Origins) a research unit at UCSD that encompasses all relevant disciplines to explore and explain the origins of the human phenomenon.
Her research centers on subsistence strategies particularly the evolution of human diet from the origins of the human lineage through the development of agriculture and the recent dependence on processed foods. Her laboratory analyzes carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen stable isotope ratios in various organic materials including hair, bone collagen and bone carbonate for diet and ecology reconstruction.
She has participated in archaeological, paleontological, and ethnographic fieldwork projects in North America, MesoAmerica, Pakistan, India, Kenya, and Tanzania.
