Organizations
- The Internet Society
- The Internet Society is a non-profit, non-governmental, international, professional
membership organization. It represents over 100 countries and more than 150
organizations and over 6,000 individuals. Through the Internet Engineering Task Force
(IETF) and the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) it focuses on Internet standards,
education, and policy issues and is recognized as a leading authority on Internet
issues. It is governed by a Board of Trustees elected by the international membership.

research sites and short descriptions of these sites.

- This web page has an extensive list of links to Internet histories, many of them
written by people who helped to develop ARPANET.
- Internet History
- This site is maintained by the University of Regina Student Connection Program and
contains a brief Internet history and links to Internet services.

The Past, Present, and Future of the Internet
- A web page which contains a timeline of significant events of Internet history and the
development of technology from 1969 to 1996. It is maintained as a part of the Emerging
Research Technologies Research Group site.
- BBN Timeline
- This timeline covers significant events in Internet history as well as political, news,
and popular culture events. The web pages are a part of the GTE Internetworking site.
GTE Internetworking is a commercial site that seeks to promote Internet solutions,
technology, and management expertise to its clients. This is a good resource for
placing Internet history within the context of United States history.
- Hobbes'
Internet Timeline
The current Hobbes' timeline grew from those written by Robert Hobbes' Zakon for
Internet classes he was teaching in the early 1990's. This timeline also places
Internet events into a wider historical perspective. It is hosted on The Internet
Society web site and is available in Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese.
