Margaret Clara Matuschak Levin
Margaret Clara Matuschak Levin, 92, of Rostraver Township, died
Saturday, July 4, 2009 in her home. Born in Connellsville on August 13,
1916, she was the daughter of the late Andrew E. and Clara (Saksa)
Matuschak.
Margaret Levin graduated from Dunbar Township High School in 1933 and
went on to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh in 1937 with a BS in
chemistry. She worked at the Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh doing research
on the effects of fluoride on dental health.
In January of 1941 Margaret Levin married Herbert J. Levin, MD and they settled in Rostraver
Township. Together they built a home in which they raised their seven children and in which she
passed away.
She was involved in a number of community activities that include Lebanon School PTA, Mon
Valley Red Cross Blood Drive, Youth and Teen Association (YATA), Rostraver Women’s Club,
the local AARP and Mon Valley Hospital Auxiliary. Bowling, playing bridge and yoga were long
time hobbies as well as she was an accomplished artist in oil painting. After graduating from
college, she learned to pilot a small airplane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings Stephen Matuschak,
Mary Macko, Anna Molinaro, Andrew Matuschak, Joseph Matuschak, Stephen Matuschak, Helen
Matuschak, Frances Bussoletti, Emil Matuschak, and Edward Matuschak; her son-in-law James
Hays and her husband Dr. Herbert J. Levin.
She is survived by her children, Carol Levin & husband Richard Gottlieb of Guilford, VT, Ruth
Levin & husband Mike Snedecor of Volcano, HI, James & his wife Sandy Levin of La Jolla, CA,
Paula Levin of Cardiff, CA, Harriet Levin of Hadley, MA, Edward Levin & his wife Risa Hiller
of Chapel Hill, NC and Susan Levin & husband Charles Hoot of Edmond, OK.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rueben Gottlieb, Michael Kuetemeyer & wife Anula
Shetty, Daniel Kuetemeyer & fiancée Betty Kim, Tera Levin, Kristen Hayes, Jared Hayes, Holly
Levin, Laura Levin, Liliana Hoot and Magdalena Hoot; and her great grandchildren; Rohan &
Anika Kuetemeyer.
Also surviving are her sister-in-law; Irene Matuschak of Uniontown as well as many beloved
nieces and nephews and their children; her former son-in-law; George Kuetemeyer & wife
Maureen O'Donnell of Collingswood, NJ; and her dedicated caregivers; Andrea and Angela.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral
