I: Do you always feel like you know what the autoflight system
P: If you look at-at the FMA, yeah I’ve got a real good idea.
now that’s one of my weak points is I don’t always look.
in fact they’ll give me a-a climb or a descent and I’ll forget
that I’m on heading, and thirty seconds later I wonder why
we’re not climbing, I look at the FMA and realize oops I needed
to pull rather than push. I’m-I’m somewhat remiss in that area.
Pull for OP CLB(selected vertical mode), push for CLB (managed vertical mode). Heading is a selected lateral mode. Managed vertical modes are available only when a managed lateral mode is active. Pilot is caught by an invisible mode dependency.
