Slightly Geeky Guides to

Pronouncing Various Languages

Without Knowing Them

(Generally More Than You Actually Need To Know)

Overview

When reading in English we often come upon foreign words (especially place names and names of people) that cannot be pronounced according to the normal (if odd) rules governing English spelling. In such cases it is useful to have some understanding of how other spelling systems work.

Depending upon the needs of various classes, I have developed a few quick, once-over pronunciation guides, linked here. They differ considerably in detail, and they won't teach you a language, but they may save you from embarrassment and/or help you impress your friends and relations.
