JIĀNG Shī 姜诗 of the Hàn 汉 dynasty (period 06) served his mother filially. His wife was named PÁNG 庞, and she was even more respectful. The old mother liked to drink water from a certain river, some miles away, and Jiāng Shī’s wife, Lady Páng, would go to draw it and bring it back to the old lady. His mother also loved eating minced fillet of fish, and Jiāng Shī and his wife often prepared it.
The old lady did not like eating alone, and so they invited the neighbors’ mothers to join her when she ate. And thus life went on for ten years and more. Suddenly, as Jiāng Shī and Lady Páng were leaving to the river one day, a fountain sprang up beside the house with a taste like the water from the river, and two carp jumped from it, which Jiāng Shī took to give to his mother.
And after that the fountain continued to flow and produced two fish every day in recognition of the filial piety of Jiāng Shī and Lady Páng.
