Comment:

In linguistics, a cognate is a word or morpheme in one language that shares an ancestral form with a word or morpheme in another language. For example, English "liberty" and French "liberté" are cognates. Two words in the same language that share a cognate relationship with a parent term in another language may also be described as cognates. For example, English "senator" and "senile" are cognates.
