Hebrew Sacred History (Extract 7)
(Normal Quiz 2)

Instructions: Answer the multiple choice questions, guessing if necessary; then click on the "Process Questions" button at the end of the quiz to see your score in the adjacent message box. The program will not reveal which questions you got wrong, only how many points you have. Go back and change your answers until you get them all right. (The message box will rejoice at that point and the page will change color to show it is tickled pink.)

Points to note: (1) Questions with only one possible answer are one point each. (2) Questions with one or more possible answers (represented by check boxes) give a point for each correct answer, but also subtract a point for each wrong answer! (3) The program will not attempt to score your efforts at all if you have not tried at least half of the questions. (4) This quiz is for your own use only. No record of your progress is kept or reported to anyone.

The complex book of Leviticus contains the Lord’s instructions to the Hebrews about how to hold up their end of the “Contract with God” so central to their identity. Obviously most readers using this quiz will not remember all of the injunctions in the text, even though the text is much abridged here, so these questions are very general or else refer to admonitions likely to be especially striking to today’s readers.
1. (Extract 7c) The procursus to 7C on “Sex & Incest” notes that some of the prohibitions are “justified” by saying that the prohibited behaviors

6. (Extract 7d) The prohibition (with no reason given) in Leviticus (19:27) says “You shall not cut the hair on shades of your head or trim the edge of your beard.” As a result, some modern Jewish groups require that boys and men wear long “spit curls.” Another prohibition disallows
bathing
wearing wool
hats
tattoos
cloth shoes
No Answer
7. (Extract 7e-f) The Lord promises that if the Hebrews obey the commandments, things will go well: they will eat well, win in war, and increase in numbers. However if they disobey, terrible things will happen to them. The procursus and comments note that: (Select two.)
the threat is aimed at the behavior of Hebrews as a nation, not at individual infractions
every infraction, no matter how trivial and no matter by which member of the community, is kept track in the Great Account Book maintained by the Angel of the Lord
the prohibitions generally do not apply to women, whom the text regards as incompetent and therefore to be treated with indulgence or to be the responsibility of men
the punishments come in increasingly severe waves, but with the opportunity for repentance and surrender to God’s will between them
the single most important admonition is not to eat pork
the single most important admonition is always to kill animals for sacrifice

Awesomeness Score: The following awesomeness score is a measure of how much guessing you did to get all items right.
