Pol Sci 219 - Rousseau and Nietzsche: The Self and the Political Order. If Rousseau can be said to have initiated a conception of modernity, Nietzsche might be said to have argued for its end. The course will proceed by an intensive comparative reading of texts from each author. Among those considered will be The Birth of Tragedy and the Discourse on Arts and Sciences; On the Genealogy of Morals and the Discourse on the Origins of Inequality; the Confessions and Ecce Homo.
