School Meeting Site: High Tech Middle Media Art, 2861 Womble Rd., San Diego, CA 92106
An important requirement of this course is weekly participatory site visits to a school or educational setting. You will work with teachers and their students during an approximately three and a half hour period each week outside of our class meeting times, and write up a reflection on your experiences and observations. Below is a description of the school site for this quarter and its location, along with the days/times that you can sign up for beyond the Thursday meetings at the school. Please look this over carefully and let me know your availability/preference for a specific days or times outside of our class meeting times (Tues/Thurs 9:30-10:50). The school is open from 9-3:30 except the second and forth wednesday of each month when there is early dismissal at 12:30. Note: you must commit to visiting the site the same times every week. Let me know if you interested in carpooling to the sites (either needing a ride or providing a seat in your car) and I will help to put you in touch with others in the class.
Site Description:
High Tech High Media Arts (HTHMA) and High Tech Middle Media Arts (HTMMA)are located in the Point Loma area of San Diego, on the former Naval Training Center on Truxton Rd ,near the intersection of Rosecrans St and Womble Rd (a 15-20 minute drive from UCSD). HTH is an innovative cluster of charter schools (open and free to California Residents) serving approximately 300 students in grades 6-8 in San Diego and features a focus on multi-media and communications. The HTH complex of schools includes 6 schools on the pont loma site: two elementaries (Explorer, and High Tech Elementary), two middle schools (High Tech Middle, and High Tech Middle Media Arts), and three High Tech High schools (High Tech High, High Tech International, and High Tech Media Arts). HTMMA is on the second floor of the building just to the left (west) of the Rock Church/School.

Available times for site visits:
- Mondays: 8:30 – 11:55 AM
- Mondays: 9:40 –11:55 and 12:35- 1:20 pm (with lunch break from 11:55-12:35)
- Mondays: 10:45 –11:55 and 1:25- 3:30 pm (with lunch break from 11:55-1:25)
- Tuesdays: TBA
- Wednesdays: 8:30 – 11:55 AM alternating every other week with 9:30-1:30 pm with lunch break from 11:45-12:30
- Fridays: 8:30 – 11:55 AM
- Fridays: 9:40 –11:55 and 12:35- 1:20 pm (with lunch break from 11:55-12:35)

Note: If you select monday site visits, you will need to do one make up day on one of the weeks when there is a monday school holiday.

Driving Directions:
From the North:
- Interstate 5 South; Rosecrans Exit;
- After the intersection of Lytton and Rosecrans, turn left Womble Road,
- turn right on Truxtun (your will pass the Rock church/school on your right. The next building is HTMMA)
- Pass the HTMMA building and make a left onto Farragutt Rd
- Make your first left into the parking lot.
- We will meet in the second floor lobby of the HTMMA building just to the west of the parking lot.
From the South:
- Interstate 5 North
- exit onto Pacific Highway;
- Left on Barnett Avenue;
- Left on Rosecrans,
- Left Womble Road
- Right on Truxtun (your will pass the Rock church/school on your right. The next building is HTMMA)
- Pass the HTMMA building and make a left onto Farragutt Rd
- Make your first left into the parking lot.
- We will meet in the second floor lobby of the HTMMA building just to the west of the parking lot.
